How Smallholder Farmers Can Help Prevent the Next Pandemic with Cargill’s Jason Shelton and Heifer International’s Dilip Bhandari
Most of the world’s livestock are raised by smallholder farmers, many of whom lack access to safe animal management training and practices. These farmers have an important role to play in preventing the spread of diseases that can be harmful to animal and human health.

Partnerships like Heifer International and Cargill’s Hatching Hope project that supports poultry producers in India, Kenya, Mexico and beyond, and the newly launched USAID-backed TRANSFORM consortium, are helping to increase access to low-cost and easily adoptable interventions to improve animal health and prevent the spread of infectious diseases.

Animal management experts Dilip Bhandari, Director of Program and Livestock Technology at Heifer International, and Jason Shelton, Chief of Party for the Cargill-led USAID-backed TRANSFORM Project, will join Pierre Ferrari, President and CEO of Heifer International, to discuss the links between animal and human health and how to prevent the spread of infectious diseases and antimicrobial resistance.
